Riin, the maker
I’ve been a maker for as long as I can remember. I started doing embroidery when I was 5 or 6, and making clothes for my dolls along with makeshift doll furniture, then graduated to needlepoint and sewing for myself.
Next thing I knew, I was sewing and designing all of my own clothes, making jewelry, and knitting.
I eventually got burned out with sewing (I think it was the quilt that took me three years to make), but making jewelry and knitting remained passions. I learned how to spin my own yarn, and it made me love knitting even more. The yarn I could spin was so beautiful, and it made the simplest sweater absolutely breathtaking!
My jewelry has changed over the years, but certain elements have remained: mixed metals, found objects, whimsy, gemstones. I’ve started using my handspun yarn in some of my jewelry, and I’m really liking the results.
I create because I have to. I can’t not make things. This is what I’m meant to do.
I hope you will find joy and beauty in the things I create. I would love to see you wearing jewelry I’ve made or something you’ve made out of my handspun yarn!
Do you have an idea for a piece of jewelry you’d like me to make for you? Let’s discuss it!
Do you have fiber you’d like me to spin for you? I do custom spinning as well!
