My own experience is valid

I’ve been on Ravelry since it was in Beta. Raveler #3535. I’ve been a huge fan since the beginning. I used to spend hours on the site, and when I owned Happy Fuzzy Yarn, naturally I listed all our patterns for sale there.

I don’t spend as much time on the site anymore for the same reason as I haven’t written a blog post since February. I just don’t have the energy. Fibromyalgia is a bitch. I spend most of my time sleeping, watching tv, hanging out on Twitter, and…sleeping.

But I follow Ravelry on Twitter, and when they first announced the new design, I took a look, thought it looked really amateurish and old compared to the old (and much cuter) design, thought all that white space is going to give me a migraine for sure, and figured I would come back after they’ve had time to work out the kinks.

It’s been about six weeks now. A lot of users are having migraines, seizures, etc., or are simply unable to use the site at all. Cassidy has been sending out letters telling people it’s perfect the way it is thank you very much, and anyone who says otherwise is lying.

Wow. I’ve always thought Ravelry was good people. Not putting up with racism, fascism, homophobia, transphobia…I really admired them for that.

But ableism is ok, I guess? That hurts.

I have multiple invisible disabilities. I had to try ~40 migraine meds before I found one that worked enough so I only have 1-3 headaches/month instead of 28-30. Bright light is painful. Having one’s health concerns dismissed is even more painful. Having one’s own physical experience dismissed as invalid is infuriating.

I don’t have a huge number of patterns for sale, and I don’t get a lot of sales anymore, but I’m working on moving my patterns somewhere else in solidarity with my disabled sibs. I’ve started the process, but since I have the energy of a sloth, it’s not going to happen overnight. I’ll let you know when I’m finished.

Final Markdown! 70% off everything at Riin Gill Design!

textured copper and vintage smoky mother of pearl button earrings - everything 70% off at RiinGillDesign.etsy.com

This is it. The final markdown. I’ve sold quite a bit in the last few weeks, but there’s still a lot left, and it’s pretty cool stuff. Here’s your chance to get some great handmade jewelry and handspun yarn at fantastic prices. (Psst…if you buy someone a gift at 70% off, they won’t know you didn’t pay full price!)

60% off. That’s a lot.

sterling silver and labradorite ring - 60% off everything at RiinGillDesign.etsy.com

Everything is a whopping 60 percent off now, including the stuff I’ve added in the last couple of weeks (you know, the stuff I’ve been meaning to add for several months). All handmade jewelry and handspun yarn is an unprecedented 60% off the original price. That’s an amazing deal!

The sale is at RiinGillDesign.etsy.com only, not my other shops. No minimum required. No coupon necessary. Since this is a going out of business sale, ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes…

Well, you may or may not have noticed that I haven’t made any jewelry in over a year. I have less energy every day, so it’s time to pack it in.

I’m closing down Riin Gill Design. I’m having a going out of business sale. Everything is currently 30% off.

Mama Liked Shiny Things and Treetown Beads will remain open, and I’ll continue to add things to them at a snail’s pace. If you’re looking for any of the components I used in my jewelry at Riin Gill Design and don’t see them yet at Treetown Beads, ask me. It’s very possible that I have what you’re looking for and just haven’t add it yet.

And now I’m going to go take a nap.
