How do you pronounce Riin?

Riin rhymes with green.

Where/how did you learn to make jewelry?

I learned the principles of jewelry design and how to work with wire years ago from the late Patricia Woodbury. More recently I took metalsmithing classes from Idelle Hammond-Sass. I’ve also read scores of books and magazine articles and watched dozens of videos. Lastly, I have practiced and experimented.

Where/how did you learn to spin?

In 1991 I took a “Spinning and Natural Dyeing” class from Beth and David Pennington. They had over 200 antique spinning wheels in their home, so we were able to try a different wheel each week. For the first few weeks, I thought I would never get the hang of it. Then one week, it just clicked!

I’m allergic to some metals. Can I wear your jewelry?

That depends on what you’re allergic to. All of the metals I use are sterling silver (92.5% silver, 7.5% copper), copper (99.99% pure), and the occasional brass accent (85% copper, 15% zinc). All earwires and chains are sterling silver.

Allergic to sterling silver? I can custom make earwires for you in fine silver (.999 silver) or 14k white gold.

Do you do custom work?

Yes. You should allow up to 3 months for me to complete your piece, as I may need to source materials I don’t have on hand and work around other orders, and I may turn down some requests if I feel they’re outside my stylistic zone, but if you like what you see and you’re looking for something similar but with a different gemstone or a pair of earrings to go with a certain outfit or something like that, contact me and let me know what you have in mind and what your budget is. 50% non-refundable down payment is required before I will begin your project. You may not alter or modify the project more than 7 days after we agree on the design. Once I notify you that your item is finished, final payment is due within 30 days. Custom orders are not returnable.

How should I take care of my jewelry?

You should avoid wearing your jewelry while doing any of the following:

  • swimming
  • using cleaning chemicals or solvents
  • doing any heavy lifting, sports, or manual labor
  • applying lotions or perfumes
  • submersing the jewelry in water
  • sleeping

Silver and copper will naturally tarnish over time. To slow this reaction, I ship your jewelry in a box with tarnish resistant fiber and acid free paper. Storing your jewelry in this box while not in use will help prevent tarnish from forming.

To polish your jewelry, rub the metal with a polishing cloth until you reach your desired shine. Orders over $200 will receive a free polishing cloth.

How should I take care of garments made from yarn you spin?

Handwash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse in lukewarm water, lay flat to dry.

If a piece breaks, can you fix it? Will there be a fee?

With normal wear and tear, the jewelry I make should last a very long time, but I understand that accidents do happen. Depending on what kind of break it is, I may be able to fix it, or it may be easier to make a new one. Send me some clear close up photos and then I’ll have a better idea. If the piece broke because of a defect in my work, I will repair it at no charge. If it broke because you dropped it and then stepped on it or something like that, I will need to charge you.

I bought a pair of earrings from you and I lost one. Can you replace it?

Maybe, but it depends on the materials. If I only used metal, it should be easy for me to make another one. If I used a stone, I may have more of those stones, or it may be possible for me to get more, or it may not be possible. If I used a found object, I may have more, or it may have been one of a kind. Send me a clear close up photo of the remaining earring and then I’ll have a better idea.

How long will it take to get my order?

It depends. I ship most items within two business days of receiving your order. If you ordered a “made to order” item, I have to make it. Depending on how many orders I’m working on, it might take a few days, or it might take up to 3 weeks before I can get it done. Custom spinning can take 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the size of the order, and the number of other orders I have.

US orders will be shipped First Class or Priority Mail (depending on the weight of the package) with a tracking number and usually arrive 1-3 days after I ship, depending on where you live. International orders will be shipped First Class International and may take up to several weeks. Allow time to clear customs. You are responsible for any customs fees.

What happens if I get my order and there’s a problem with it?

I really hope you love your jewelry or yarn, but if you get it and you don’t like it, please let me know right away. You can return it for a refund within 30 days of shipment. You are responsible for the cost of the return postage.

Can I pay by check?

You can pay by e-check. Choose the PayPal option at Checkout (you don’t have to have a PayPal account), and then choose e-check. Enter the requested numbers from your check, and when the check clears, PayPal will deposit the money in my account and I will then ship your item.

Where can I find your Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions, etc.?

My Privacy policy is here, Terms and Conditions are here, Disclaimer here, Shipping & Returns policy here. Basically it all boils down to I’m not a jerk so you shouldn’t be a jerk either, but lawyers, GDPR, blah blah blah, so, you know.
