I learned to knit when I was in college. I was a fiber snob even then (having been sewing my own clothes for years), so I only wanted natural fibers. Being a poor college student, I couldn’t afford the beautiful yarns I saw in yarn shops.
People gave me wool yarn they didn’t want anymore in colors they didn’t like, and I overdyed them. This satisfied me for a while, but I wanted more texture.
In 1991 Iearned how to spin. My world was never the same. Spinning is one of the most relaxing, meditative things I do, and it yields one of the most beautiful things I make: handspun yarn!
